Visiting an open air market in Provence is one of life's little pleasures. Market day has been a way of life for Provençals, as well as most Europeans for generations. The market serves not only as an opportunity to shop, but also has a social function bringing the community together each week. For the traveler, it allows you a glimpse into everyday life in Provence and allows you to interact with locals.Stroll to the winding stone streets of one of the Luberon’s hilltop villages, where, once you’ve hiked to the top, you’ll find outdoor cafés for a simple café crème or local restaurants that feature delicious Provencal dishes enhanced by Rhone Valley wines from either the nearby Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, the Cotes de Luberon, Cote de Ventoux….

Or visit one of the daily markets (Friday is Bonnieux and Lourmarin) to browse through the abundance of local produce to stimulate your own culinary imagination. Sunday is Coustellet as are others around.

For hikers, find the trails of the Grande or Petite Randonnée, the symbols for which are not far from our door. Are you a cycling enthusiast? So are the French. The Luberon is a wonderful place for cycling, a wonderful way to discover gems off the beaten track.

For antique aficionados, the antique capital of the south, Isle Sur la Sorgue, is right next door. Do you want more chic, or even history? Take a scenic drive to the Papal city of Avignon. For more history and lots of art, venture a bit farther afield to Aix en Provence; for coastal chic, drive on to St. Tropez or Cannes by the resplendent Cote d’Azur.

And this is only the beginning……
